Standard login disappears: eHerkenning required for OSS and VAT returns
From 1 July 2024 the OSS return can no longer be filed with a username and password. Foreign businesses doing business in the Netherlands in particular will need to move to eHerkenning.
From 1 July 2024 the Dutch Tax Administration is withdrawing the standard login for filing OSS returns with a username and password. The change mainly affects foreign businesses doing business in the Netherlands. They will need to switch to eHerkenning, a secure and standardised login method.
eHerkenning is comparable to the DigiD system used by Dutch citizens, but for companies and organisations. It offers a higher level of security and reliability, which is essential for sensitive financial transactions such as tax returns. It allows businesses to log in securely and easily to a range of government services and agencies, including the tax authorities.
The transition means businesses need to get their affairs in order in good time, or they will no longer be able to file their OSS return. That can be a challenge, particularly for foreign businesses unfamiliar with eHerkenning.
We understand how involved this switch can be and can help with the application: guidance on choosing a provider, the registration process and selecting the right assurance level. That way your business continues to meet Dutch tax requirements and can keep filing its OSS returns.
